Book Discussion: Unorthodox

Deborah Feldman’s memoir Unorthodox: the Scandalous Rejection of my Hasidic Rootstells her story of being raised in a strict Hasidic community where decisions most people take for granted were tightly controlled. At the age of seventeen she was married to a stranger and at nineteen she had a son. His birth prompted her to dramatically change her life. Unorthodox offers insight into the practices of Orthodox Jews, and takes readers through a journey of strength and growth.

Our book discussion series The Heart of Spirituality focuses on books with spiritual themes. South Hill Branch Manager Louise Sullivan will lead the discussion. You may attend and participate even if you have not read the book.

The series continues on the following dates with discussions of the following books:

February 11 -- When Bad Things Happen to Good People

March 11 -- A Wrinkle in Time

April 8 -- Persepolis
