First presented in 2000, the Michael L. Printz Award goes to the author of the book that best exemplifies literary excellence in young adult literature. It is named for a Topeka, Kansas school librarian who was a long-time active member of the Young Adult Library Services Association. the division of the American Library Association that sponsors the award. The Printz Award Committee names the winner and may designate honor books as well.
