Sugar, ooo, Honey Honey
For a honey of a story, I recommend Honey by Sarah Weeks. Melody is ten. She lives with her dad, Henry. Her mom died when Melody was born. Melody and her best friend Nick loved their fourth grade teacher, Mrs. McKenna, but now they are in fifth grade with the horrible, terrible, cruel Miss Hogan. Melody overhears her dad call someone “Honey” on the phone. Then the gossip at the Beehive nail parlor is that Henry got bitten by the Love Bug. Melody is determined to find out if her father is that Henry, and if so, who his new girlfriend is. Meanwhile, Mo, the dog at the Beehive, is waiting and hoping for a girl he is dreaming about to come and rescue him. I recommend this warm, good-hearted, humorous book to readers in grades three to five.
