Believe in the Possible
I really enjoyed The Fourteenth Goldfish by Jennifer L. Holm. It is a new school year. Ellie misses fifth grade and her ex-best friend who now sits at the volleyball players’ table at lunch. She misses the goldfish she got in preschool, who just finally passed away. Then mom brings home a weird, bossy, cranky boy who reminds her of… no, it can’t be…Grandpa Melvin? Yes, Ellie’s brainy scientist grandfather has discovered the formula for regaining youth. Or he would if he could just get back in his lab. Instead, Ellie has to take him to middle school with her. I recommend this humorous and heartfelt story to readers in grades five to eight.
