Explore STEM During Winter Break

Wintertime is a great time to experience the outdoors around us and investigate the science of winter. Here are a few ways to experience the outdoors in a new way this month:

  • Measure the snowfall every day over winter break and chart it together.
  • Make mini-snowmen (on the order of 8 inches tall) with snow from outside. Add some googly eyes, buttons, and sticks. Place in a bowl or cup and time how long it takes for your snowman to melt!
  • Go for a walk in a local park, watching for signs of wildlife such as footprints!
  • Watch videos about how snowflakes form.
  • Make snow ice cream!

Spokane Public Library will be offering these winter-themed events during the month of December, as well.
