Friends of the Spokane Public Library

WHO ARE THE FRIENDS?

Friends of the Spokane Public Library is an all-volunteer group dedicated to providing more than $40,000 in funding to the Library annually including:

  • Supporting Summer Reading for kids and teens with programs and book giveaways
  • Supporting Spokane Is Reading, a program that brings a different author to town each year
  • Special equipment purchases (recent examples include AWE Early Learning Computer Stations for young children and Sensory Support kits)

SUPPORT THE FRIENDS

By purchasing a Friends of the Library membership, you are contributing to important programs and services for the community. Not only that, but you also get early access to the semi-annual book sale! Individual memberships start at $10 and family memberships are $15. Donations in any amount are welcome.

SEMI-ANNUAL BOOK SALES

The Friends of the Library hosts a semi-annual book sale in the spring and fall. Stock up on gently used fiction, nonfiction, children’s titles, and more. Throughout the sale, teachers can fill a box of books for just $5.

Currently, the book sales are suspended due to Covid-19. The next book sale date is to be announced.

BUY THE BOOK

Buy inexpensive used books from the Friends of the Library and know that all the funds support Library programs and supplies. You’ll find books for sale on small shelves at each open Library location. Payment for these items is on the honor system. Starting in spring 2022, you’ll also be able to visit the Friends of the Library bookstore on the first floor of the Central Library.¬†

DONATE YOUR USED BOOKS

The Friends sell donated materials in the book store and at semi-annual book sales to raise money for special projects at the Library.

Accepted donations: Used books, CDs, and DVDs in good condition.

Not accepted: Damaged materials, textbooks, magazines, condensed books, personally-recorded videos, CDs or DVDs, VHS cassettes or eight-track tapes, or loose-leaf items.

Drop off your donation at any open Library location, except The Hive.

VOLUNTEER WITH THE FRIENDS

By volunteering for the Friends of Spokane Public Library, you will make a big impact on the community. The Friends of Spokane Public Library relies on volunteers to staff the book store at Central Library, prepare for the book sales, serve on the board, and more. All ages, abilities, and backgrounds are welcome. Completed application forms may be turned in at any open library location
