Gather with your neighbors and host a block party for the ages! In partnership with the City of Spokane, you can now host a block party for free through the City of Spokane’s Play Streets initiative! When you apply for a special events permit for your group, you can get the permit fee waived if it is a block party that is free and open to the public.
When you get your special events permit, you can can pick up a Block Party Kit from the Central Library to help make your event safe. These kits include Type II Barricades, “Road Closed Ahead” signs, “No Left Turn” and “No Right Turn” signs, “Side Street Closed Ahead Signs,” and traffic sign stands.
Want to host a block party? Here’s your step-by-step guide!
- Apply for a Special Events Permit on the City of Spokane website and read through their FAQs. It is recommended to apply 30 days before your scheduled event.
- Reserve a Block Party Kit from Spokane Public Library with a library card on the library’s website. Choose a time range for your block party kit that overlaps with your event.
- Call the library at 509-444-5300 before arrival for both pickup and return so staff can meet them at the garage.
- Equipment must be picked up and returned at the Central Library parking garage, 906 W Main Ave, entry via Spokane Falls Blvd.
- Customer must provide a vehicle large enough to transport all equipment.
