New! Cat Tales Passes Now Available with Your Library Card

Travel north to Mead starting March 19, 2026 to see our wild animal friends at Cat Tales Wildlife Center for free with your Spokane Public Library card! Cat Tales is a dedicated wildlife rescue shelter that provides forever homes for animals in need. As a sanctuary for non-releasable and exotic animals, they offer year-round opportunities for visitors to experience up-close views of incredible animals within a safe, professionally managed environment. This partnership aims to help educate our community about wildlife rescue, care and conservation, and zookeeping.

Passes become available 30 days in advance (starting Thursday, March 19). There are two passes available for each day Cat Tales is open. Hours change seasonally but Cat Tales is open all year long.

Fall & Winter Hours: Open Thursday thru Sunday — 10:00am to 4:00pm (November – March)

Spring & Summer Hours starting April 1, 2026: Tuesday thru Sunday – 10am to 5pm (April-October)

The library’s Museum & Culture Pass program offers cardholders the ability to “check out” experiences. Making these experiences more accessible engages Spokane citizens with different types of art, sports, education, and culture while appreciating the talent that lives in our community.

How It Works

  • Each family pass provides one-day admission for two (2) adults and up to four (4) children in the same household and will be redeemed at the front gate. Children under age 5 and seniors age 65 and older are admitted free of charge. Each library patron can access one (1) Cat Tales pass per calendar year. Two (2) passes are available per day.
  • Open hours change throughout the year and vary by season, depending on the weather.
    • In the fall and winter, Cat Tales will be open to the public for fewer days and shorter hours. To plan ahead, we recommend calling for updated open hours: 509.238.4126.
  • Last Entry Time: Cat Tales Wildlife Center recommends that visitors arrive at least 30 minutes before closing. This should give visitors enough time to enjoy their visit without feeling too rushed.

FAQ

When is the best time to visit?

Spring mornings are a favorite at Cat Tales! Cooler temperatures often mean more movement, exploring, and enrichment activity.

On super-sunny afternoons, you may find some of our residents fully committed to their basking routine — stretched out, soaking up the warmth, and looking wonderfully unbothered. (We don’t blame them.) While they may be less interested in participating in encounters during peak sunshine, there are activities and wildlife moments happening throughout the day.

How are the animals cared for?

the animals are provided with enriching habitats, nutritious diets, and exceptional veterinary care within a 4.5-acre facility.

Why are the animals not released to the wild?

Since 1991, we’ve provided safe, loving homes for wildlife that cannot return to the wild — whether rescued, surrendered, or retired. Each animal here carries a story of resilience, from tigers who once performed in shows to orphaned bobcats and curious raccoons who lost their mothers too soon.

Can the animals be pet, borrowed, or rented?

No. These are wild animals and are protected and cared for by Cat Tales.

Can Cat Tales accommodate wheelchairs?

Yes, Cat Tales is flat and wheelchair accessible. Pathways are made of gravel.

Tips for visiting in Fall & Winter at Cat Tales

As the seasons change, our sanctuary takes on a new kind of beauty. Crisp fall days and snowy winter mornings bring out unique behaviors in our rescued animals—from bobcats pouncing through leaves to tigers enjoying the cool air.

During colder months, many of our older animals prefer cozy naps in their dens, while others remain curious and active outdoors. Guests often enjoy seeing bears preparing for winter or catching a glimpse of big cats basking in the crisp sunshine.

We encourage visitors to bundle up warmly, wear sturdy shoes, and be prepared for the weather so you can enjoy your adventure in comfort. Hot drinks and warm smiles await in the gift shop!
