3D Printing POLICY

Adopted by Spokane Public Library Board of Trustees on February 16, 2016.

1. Policy/Procedure

Purpose
Spokane Public Library strives to offer our customers access to new and emerging technologies to inspire a new interest in creation and collaboration. This policy establishes how and under what circumstances the public may use Spokane Public Library’s 3D printer.

Cost
Prints are based at $0.25 per cubic centimeter of filament with a $2.00 minimum charge.

Policy
Spokane Public Library’s 3D printer is available to the public to make 3D objects using a design that is uploaded from a digital computer file. The 3D printer may be used for lawful purposes only.

Customers will not be permitted to use the printer to create objects that are:

(a) Prohibited by local, state or federal law.

(b) In violation of another’s intellectual property rights; for example, materials that is subject to copyright, patent or trademark protection.

(c) Unsafe, harmful, dangerous or that may pose an immediate threat to the wellbeing of others; for example, guns, knives or other possibly lethal weapons.

(d) Obscene or otherwise inappropriate items for the library environment Spokane Public Library reserves the right to refuse any 3D print request.

Printing of 3D files by Spokane Public Library staff does not constitute knowledge or acknowledgment of any unapparent final use of the 3D product and the library specifically disclaims any knowledge thereof.
