VISITORS TO THE DOWNTOWN LIBRARY POLICY

Adopted by Spokane Public Library Board of Trustees on January 1, 1994.

1. GENERAL

1.1 The Downtown Library is equipped with a security system which requires a security card to access non-public areas. Therefore, arrangements must be made to provide necessary access for vendors, repair persons, and other visitors. This policy is divided into the following sections:

  • SECTION 1 – GENERAL
  • SECTION 2 – STATEMENT OF POLICY
  • SECTION 3 – IMPLEMENTATION

2. STATEMENT OF POLICY

2.1 Access to the non-public areas of the Downtown Library is limited to employees who are scheduled to work at the downtown site and those visitors with a need to visit those areas. Staff who expect visitors will make arrangements for access according to this policy.

3. IMPLEMENTATION

3.1 Staff should encourage visitors to make an appointment, so that arrangements may be made to escort them to the meeting place. If it is not possible to meet visitors, they may be instructed to check with any service desk or with the Administrative Receptionist for assistance in locating staff.

3.2 There are no special parking arrangements for visitors. If space is available, visitors may use the underground public parking area at the normal hourly rate.

3.3 Vendors and other visitors may load and unload vehicles at the loading dock. Vehicles left in the loading dock area unattended will be towed at the owner’s expense.

3.4 Employees are prohibited from lending their security card to any other person.

3.5 Visitors who will be in non-public areas unescorted, such as repair persons, will wear a “Visitor” badge, so that they may be identified by staff.
