Turn Back Time with Historical Newspapers

While many of you may read The Spokesman-Review as part of your morning ritual, with a library card, you can turn back time and see what the news of the day was as early as 1883. Gone are the days of scrolling through reels of microfilm, as you can now browse and search full-text local historic newspapers online for free! Each title includes the complete paper, cover-to-cover, with full-page images in easily downloadable PDF format. We currently provide access to three databases with historic newspaper coverage.

Proquest Historical Newspapers: Spokane newspapers, including The Spokesman-Review and the Spokane Chronicle, dating from 1883 to 2009.

Proquest Recent Newspapers: In addition to newspapers from the Western United States, includes The Spokesman-Review since 2010.

Newspapers.com-West: A wide variety of historic Washington and Idaho newspapers, along with newspapers in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Hawaii, Montana, Nevada, and Wyoming.
