There’s a new program on the block coming soon to your neighborhood library: Drop In & Play, where the only goal is to get busy and play. This program will feature open-ended play opportunities for children. Activities are aimed at children approximately ages 4-8, although all children are welcome – bring the whole family!
Open-ended play refers to activities which don’t have a ‘right’ way to engage. There are no rules, no expected outcomes, and no specified method of participating. This type of play is incredibly beneficial to children’s creativity, critical thinking skills, and confidence. It is also very calming for many children, even when activities seem energetic, as there are no pressures to perform or conform.
In February, we’re exploring basic physics with Marble Runs! We’ll provide a variety of materials to construct your marble machine, you bring your imagination! Upcoming themes for Drop In & Play include LEGOs, sensory stations, water toys, and much more. This program will feature choking hazards; children under 4 are welcome but will need close adult supervision. You are welcome to join us at any point during the program – come at 3 and stay the whole time, or pop in after school to enjoy the fun!
